Decarbonization Discussion

  • First Unitarian Society of Ithaca Annex 306 North Aurora Street Ithaca, NY, 14850 United States (map)

Sunday, March 30 at First Unitarian Society Annex: Over 15 individuals joined a community discussion of how to protect Ithaca's climate-forward building law in the face of Cornell's attempt to change it.

Cornell would like to rewrite Ithaca's progressive energy code so their campus can continue to burn fossil fuels. The science and engineering says they are wrong. We need to protect the integrity of Ithaca's Energy Code Supplement (IECS) against Cornell's misguided amendments, which would set a dangerous precedent for climate action here and everywhere.

The IECS is designed to deliver on Ithaca's goals for emissions reduction under the Green New Deal. Cornell should be leading the way on Ithaca's fossil-fuel phaseout and the Green New Deal, not subverting them.

A diverse group of people gathered for information sharing, discussion, and to brainstorm next steps. Organized by the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca Environmental Interest Circle (FUSIT EIC), Cornell on Fire, Sunrise Ithaca, Families for a Livable Future (formerly Mothers Out Front Tompkins) and other congregations and groups.
